Homeopathy has been knows for time immemorial as a wonderful method of treatment of Asthma. There are people who meet us and give us their experience of how they had experienced beneficial effects of homeopathy in treatment of Asthma, bronchitis, allergies and other respiratory diseases. And the same is the experience if of all Homeopaths. Homeopathy has shown beneficial results in auto immune disorders or can also be called immune system disorders wherein the immune system shows a disordered reaction and produces symptoms. So let us know more about asthma and how homeopathy can be of help.

Asthma belongs to the allergy type of diseases in which the airway or air passage becomes narrow, swollen and produces extra mucus. This can make breathing difficult and trigger coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath. For some people, asthma is a minor problem, for others, it can be a major problem that interferes with daily activities.

Symptoms

Asthma symptoms range from minor to severe and vary from person to person. Most common symptoms are – Shortness of breath, feeling of tightness or pain in chest, coughing, a whistling or wheezing sound when breathing out (wheezing is a common sign in children). These symptoms can be seen in severe intensity in acute attack of asthma.

Causes

It is not clear why some people get asthma and others don’t, but it is presumed to be due to a combination of environmental and genetic (inherited) factors. Known triggering factors for asthma are:  Allergens –  like pollen, animal dander, mold, dust mites, smoke, dust, strong odors, damp places, etc; food allergens, like peanuts, shellfish, etc; Respiratory infections, like the common cold; exercise; Cold air; Certain medications, including beta blockers, aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others) and naproxen (Aleve); Strong emotions and stress; preservatives and colour used in food and beverages; etc…

Chances of developing asthma increase in people who have – A family history; an allergic condition, such as atopic dermatitis or allergic rhinitis (hay fever); overweight; smoking; mother who smoked while pregnant; Exposure to chemicals used in farming, hairdressing and manufacturing.

Diagnosis: Physical exam; Tests to measure lung function – lung (pulmonary) function tests to determine how much air moves in and out while breathing. These tests include: Spirometry, Peak flow.

Other tests include: A chest X-ray; high-resolution computerized tomography (CT) scan of your lungs and nose cavities (sinuses); Sputum; eosinophil test.

Treatments and drugs

According to modern medicine Asthma can’t be cured, but its symptoms can be controlled.

The right medications depend on a number of things, including age, symptoms, asthma triggers and what seems to work best to keep asthma under control. Preventive, long-term control medications reduce the inflammation in airways that leads to symptoms. Quick-relief inhalers (bronchodilators) quickly open swollen airways that are limiting breathing. In some cases, allergy medications are necessary.

Homeopathy has a lot to offer for the patients with Asthma. Homeopathic medicines are known to remove asthma and associated allergies from roots. We hear stories from our patients about asthma in their families treated successfully by homeopathic medicines.

A homeopath will try to gather all minute details from the patient regarding his symptoms, its aggravating and ameliorating aspects. He also goes into details of the family and past history of diseases or illnesses suffered from so that he can trace the origin of the problem. Finally he also notes the mental, emotional and psychological details of the patient to understand the constitution of the patient and from all this information he prescribes a homeopathic medicine which will help to in treating asthma. Asthma is not an easy disease to treat, but if given sufficient time and patience, homeopathy can do wonders. Only thing the patient have to do is – give a detailed history, take treatment regularly without omissions, report when ever asked to and follow the instructions time to time and they will see desired result.

Patients can take steps to reduce exposure to things that trigger asthma symptoms like – Use air conditioner to reduce the amount of airborne pollen from trees, grasses and weeds; Minimize dust, remove carpets, use washable curtains and blinds; Maintain optimal humidity – by using a dehumidifier; Clean damp areas in the bath, kitchen and around the house getting rid of moldy leaves or damp firewood in the yard; If you’re allergic to dander, avoid pets with fur or feathers; Wear a mask while cleaning or going out in places where there are allergens likely to affect; Regular physical and breathing exercise, If you exercise in cold temperatures, wear a face mask to warm the air you breathe. Yoga, Meditation may help by reducing tension and stress; Maintain a healthy weight and eat healthy fresh food preferably fruits and vegetables.

Don’t live with Asthma, get rid of it. Homeopathy can help you.
