QUEEN’S PARK- Bramalea-Gore-Malton MPP Jagmeet singh tabled a question today in the legislature regarding the health education curriculum that was released by the Ontario government.

“While the Ministry of Education is claiming to have consulted parents, only 4000 hand-picked parents were able to provide input on behalf of all Ontarians. I have heard from some of those families and parents who said the survey given to them was extremely vague and lacked context.”

Singh noted that these changes to the curriculum were approved by the Minister of Education and were not debated or presented to MPP’s in the legislature before being released to the public.

“I contacted the Ministry of Education back in November of 2014 and last month, asking for the details of the proposed changes to be released to the MPPs immediately in order to consult with my constituents but the Ministry responded by confirming the curriculum had not yet been finalized.”

MPP Singh tabled a question to the Minister of education that read:

Will the Minister of Education organize a more informative and accessible consultation process after the proposed changes to the Health Education curriculum are released, so that parents have an opportunity to have their voices heard?

“Parent’s should have an opportunity to see all the details of what is included in the new curriculum and then have an opportunity to have their concerns addressed” Said Singh.
