Young dancers Esha, Anjali and Anasha perform the Diwali invocation dance in honour of Goddess Mother Lakshmi played divinely by Izabella Nemdhari at the Voice of Dharma annual dinner and show.
Spirited and spiritual dancing by the young ladies of the Footsteps Dance School was one of the highlights of the Voice of Dharma Diwali Dinner and Variety Show held on Saturday November 3 in Scarborough.
The girls delivered seven dances in all to a packed and appreciative audience at the newly opened Kanthaswammy Banquet Hall. Several Bollywood items, a Bollywood Spanish mix, ghagra and ghangra dances soon had some audience members literally dancing in the aisles.
Music band Destiny led by Stephen Nanan delivered stirring music for singers Vijai Ramdath, Darren Armogan Logun, Amar and Tisha Sancharra, Nishaani Kowlessar, Davina, Prem, Shaam and Shanti Persaud, and Alana Singh. MC Molly Nemdhari and Rani Sookram slung out the squeaky clean jokes to a warmed up crowd that had started the evening with an all you can eat vegetarian dinner with non alcoholic drinks and dessert.
Voice of Dharma president Pundit Hari Sookram declared the event a rousing success, as evidenced by the majority of the audience waiting past ten pm to witness the raffle and prizes draw, and some refusing to go home even after the program had ended. He found the new Kanthaswammy Hall with modern facilities and abundant parking to be a vast improvement over last year’s venue and urged other community groups to consider it for their events.
