USMCA To Reinforce Strong Economic Ties between Canada, United States and Mexico

Canada, United States and Mexico reached an agreement on a new and modern trade agreement called the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) earlier this month. The agreement is particularly significant for Canadian businesses, workers and communities in areas such as labour, environment, automotive trade, dispute resolution, culture, energy, and agriculture and agri-food. The United States Mexico Canada Agreement is an updated, modernized version of the North American Free Trade Agreement which provides a secure and stable trade environment for Canadian workers and businesses. The renewed agreement goes a step further than NAFTA by reaching an understanding in key areas such as rules of origin for automotive manufacturing, agriculture, labour, intellectual property rights, culture, and dispute settlement. By maintaining a constructive approach through the negotiations, Canada ensured that the agreement which affects a variety of sectors, defends Canada’s interests and upholds Canadian values. Ms. Kamal Khera, the Member of Parliament for Brampton West believes the Unites States-Mexico-Canada Agreement is good for Canada and will help create good, well-paying, middle class jobs, strengthen economic ties, and expand Canada’s trade in North America.  “The United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) is a progressive and inclusive trade agreement which will give our businesses, workers and communities across industries a secure and stable environment, resulting in a strengthened middle class.  This agreement will create good, well-paying jobs and new opportunities for Canadians,” said MP Kamal Khera.
