Thousands gathered for the three days of the 39th Jalsa Salana (annual convention) of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at Canada at the International Centre, Mississauga, Ontario. Its opening started with Friday prayer and sermon delivered by the National President Lal Khan Malik. The opening address of the first session was presented by the Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and presided by the National President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at, Lal Khan Malik. Several dignitaries, politicians and diplomats were also in attendance for the opening session.

Justin Trudeau commended the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at for its commitment to uphold the principles of respect, inclusion and fairness. Trudeau expressed, “The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at plays a vital role in promoting the positive diversity that is at the heart of Canada’s success as a nation.” He further stated regarding the Jama`at, “In your work, in your communities and internationally, you reflect the best of Canadian values.” In the afternoon session, Jason Kenney, Judy Sigro and other leading politicians, community leaders and dignitaries and diplomats attended and address the audience.
