Tens of thousands rally as B’desh job protests spread

Tens of thousands of university students marched in cities across Bangladesh  in one of the biggest protests faced by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her decade in power. Students fighting against a controversial policy that sets aside government jobs for special groups have united in mass protests rarely seen on such a scale in Bangladesh.

Singer shot dead after she failed to stand while singing

A Pakistani singer was shot dead at a village in Pakistan’s southern Sindh province after she failed to stand up while singing. Tariq Jatoi kept badgering Samina Samoon to stand up while singing but when she could not get up due to her pregnancy he shot her dead, police said.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital but she succumbed to her injuries, it added.The police have arrested the accused and two of his accomplices for shooting the singer. The police said the singer’s husband filed a double murder report because of the unborn child.
