Sikh leaders and activists of radical organisations today took out a protest march from Talwandi Sabo to Bathinda amid high security.
They held the protest in support of Sikh activist Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa, who has been on an indefinite fast at an Ambala gurdwara seeking the release of Sikh detainees languishing in jails across the country.
The march was halted twice by the police, but was allowed to proceed after the activists assured the police of a peaceful protest.
The march began from Gurudwara Talwandi Sabo where Takht Damdama Sahib Jathedar Giani Balwant Singh Nandgarh addressed a gathering.
He said: “Being a Jathedar, I cannot accompany you to Bathinda to hand over a memorandum to a public servant.” He urged people to put up black flags on their rooftops on Republic Day to express solidarity with Khalsa.
