[SCARBOROUGH] – Justin Trudeau recently announced that a Liberal government will invest in and make it easier for Canadians in Scarborough to find safe and affordable housing.

Liberal candidates in Scarborough were out Tuesday morning at a local community housing to highlight the need to invest in affordable housing, and bring the real change residents are looking for in Scarborough.

John McKay, Liberal candidate in Scarborough-Guildwood noted that “after a decade of Stephen Harper, people in Scarborough are working harder and longer just to make ends meet in an economy that no longer works to meet their needs”.

Shaun Chen, Liberal candidate in Scarborough North, further elaborated that “now, more than ever, Canadian families want a federal government that will support affordable housing ”.

All Scarborough Liberal candidates agreed that the plan to make housing more affordable is greatly needed for the people who are too often the most ignored – our seniors, persons with disabilities, lower-income families, and Canadians working harder to join the middle class. They pledged that under the leadership of Justin Trudeau and a Liberal government, investment in affordable housing would be of priority.

The Scarborough Liberal candidates promised to develop a comprehensive National Housing Strategy that will:

 Prioritize significant new investments in affordable housing and seniors’ facilities, as part of the Liberals’ historic ten-year investment of nearly $20 billion in social infrastructure

 Finance the construction of new affordable rental housing for middle- and low-income Canadians

 Review escalating home prices in high-priced markets – like Vancouver and Toronto – to keep home ownership within reach of Canadians living in these areas.

“Liberal Party of Canada is the only party with the plan to put more money in Scarborough families’ pockets to help with the costs of paying mortgages or rent, and raising their kids”, said Salma Zahid, Liberal candidate in Scarborough Centre.

“This is a question about quality of life, and ensuring every Canadian has a real and fair chance to succeed”, emphasized Gary Anandasangaree, Liberal candidate in Scarborough-Rouge Park.

The Liberal candidates in Scarborough are working to ensure residents of Scarborough are aware that only Justin Trudeau has the team and the plan to make a real difference in the lives of all Canadians.
