With Canada having legalized marijuana on Wednesday, the World Anti-Doping Agency should remove cannabis from its banned list of drugs, said Canadian Ross Rebagliati, whose Olympic snowboard gold medal was taken away after he tested positive for the drug then subsequently returned on a technicality. WADA, which fights the use of drugs in sport, is based in Montreal where 12 marijuana shops were opened thanks to the new rule. “I think it’s time, it’s overdue actually,” Rebagliati, who won gold at the 1998 Nagano Olympics, said referring to removing cannabis from WADA’s banned list.

Curry, Durant help Warriors past Thunder in opener

Stephen Curry is coming off an injury-plagued season and a summer he thought might be among his best yet. On a festive night of celebration as another championship banner went up, Curry brought his usual flair and dazzle. Kevin Durant did all of the little things, too. Curry had 32 points, nine assists and eight rebounds, Durant added 27 points, eight rebounds and six assists, and the Golden State Warriors opened their quest for a three-peat by holding off the Oklahoma City Thunder 108-100 on Tuesday night. Results: Boston 105 beat Philadelphia 87; Golden State 108 bt Oklahoma City 100.

Pique confident of Nadal’s entry

Gerard Pique is not worried about the possible absence of some top players in the revamped Davis Cup, especially since Rafael Nadal has said he will play in the new-look competition when it debuts next year. The Barcelona defender, who spearheads the company behind the new format of the Davis Cup, said  that Nadal has told him he will play as long as he is not injured. “If the No. 1 in the world is playing, that’s more than enough,” Pique said in the official presentation of Madrid as host of the Davis Cup finals for the next two years. “Rafa is very positive about this event, especially because it is taking place in Madrid.”
