One person was killed and at least seven others were injured following a clash between the employees of Patanjali Yogpeeth-run Padartha Food Herbal Park and truck union members at Lakshar.

The deceased has been identified as 45-year-old Daljeet, a resident of Aithal who was employed with a transport firm. The police have arrested Yoga guru Ramdev’s brother Ram Bharat, who had been managing the food park.

A heavy police posse has been deployed around the food park with Haridwar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sweety Aggarwal and Inspector General (Garhwal division) Sanjay Gunjiyal themselves taking stock of the situation.

Surjeet Singh Pawar, Superintendent of Police, said the clash occurred around 11 am when the truckers had a heated argument with the food park staff, including security guards, over the awarding of transport contracts. The union members were reportedly demanding preference  in contracts for the local truckers even as the food park management was against the idea. Pawar said the arguments took an ugly turn when the members of the warring sides hurled stones at each other and attacked their rivals with iron rods.
