Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne issued this statement following an attack in Karachi, Pakistan.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those who perished in this attack, and the entire Ismaili community. I am shocked and saddened by this senseless act of violence, which has left at least 43 innocent people dead, and many others wounded.

Across the globe, Ismaili communities are renowned for peacefully coexisting with their neighbours. As Premier, I have worked closely with the strong and vibrant Ismaili community in Ontario, and I have seen this commitment to religious and ethnic harmony first-hand.

In Ontario we believe that diversity is one of our key strengths, and we strongly condemn any attack that targets a specific religious or ethnic group.

I join the Shia Ismaili Muslim community in mourning this tragedy. On behalf of the Province of Ontario, I would like to offer my condolences to the families of the victims, and to the entire Ismaili community.”
