Catherine Fife, Ontario NDP Employment, Research and Innovation Critic, issued the following statement.

“New Democrats welcome the Changing Workplaces Review and thank the contributors for their work.

As we study this long-awaited report, we keep in mind the thousands of precariously employed Ontarians who are struggling to support their families, and who deserve the benefit of paid sick days and a $15 minimum wage. Union jobs are good jobs and we believe that it should be easier for more Ontarians to join unions. New Democrats have long called for and committed to a return to card-based union certification and first-contract arbitration.

Workers throughout the province deserve a quick response by the Wynne government, not another report left to gather dust on the shelves. After 14 years of Liberal government with no significant changes to Ontario’s labour laws, Ontarians deserve to see immediate action on recommendations by labour and community groups to the Changing Workplaces Review.  Ontarians expect immediate improvements that will better the lives of workers, not more stretch goals from Premier Wynne. ”
