In more embarrassment for the Aam Aadmi Party, former Delhi Law Minister and MLA Somnath Bharti has been accused of domestic violence.
AAP MLA’s wife has levelled serious charges against him and has approached the Delhi Commission for Women.
Bharti has been accused of assault and domestic violence and the DCW has issued summons to the leader.
He has been asked to appear before the Commission on June 26. “Allegations of domestic violence if any are baseless n inconceivable. I love my wife and my little children. I urge media to respect my privacy,”Bharti posted on Twitter
Terming Delhi Law Minister Jitender Tomar’s arrest in a fake degree case as a “healthy precedent”, the Congress sought similar action against HRD Minister Smriti Irani, who submitted two varied affidavits on her educational qualifications to the Election Commission, and her junior in the ministry Ram Shankar Katheria, charged with forging his marks.
“The way the police have acted against Tomar, they should act against Smriti Irani and Ram Shankar Katheria also,” Congress’ senior spokesperson and Delhi Congress unit head Ajay Makan said.
The Congress was the first to officially demand action against Irani last year when it surfaced that she had, in two election years, submitted different affidavits mentioning different qualifications. Her case is before the Delhi High Court. Makan further demanded the resignation of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, questioning him for ignoring forgery allegations against Tomar. “Arvid Kejriwal not only gave Tomar a ticket in Delhi polls he also made him a minister knowing well what he had done,” Makan said, slamming the AAP convener for doing little to promote transparency and accountability in the government despite getting a huge mandate from the people of Delhi.
“Kejriwal has cheated the people,” Makan said citing as “ironical” the fact that Kejriwal had quit his first innings as Delhi CM on the issue of the Jan Lokpal Bill.
“He had resigned ruing that he was not being allowed to pass the anti graft bill. Now why is he shielding the corrupt,” Makan asked.
Besides, he said there had been no Lokayukta in Delhi for long, but Kejriwal had not cared to fill the post till now. He noted that Kejriwal had also removed L Ramdas who was working as the internal Lokpal in AAP.
