OTTAWA – Official Opposition Leader Rona Ambrose, and Foreign Affairs critic Tony Clement, joined with a chorus of international allies today in condemning North Korea’s launching of a long-range rocket this morning. They issued the following statement:

“This launch is the latest in a long line of dangerous provocations by the rogue regime in Pyongyang, and is in blatant defiance of UN resolutions. It marks a disturbing escalation of hostile actions, coming less than a month after North Korea declared it has successfully tested a hydrogen bomb. The Conservative caucus condemns this latest violation of international law, particularly as it poses a threat to the peace of the region, and the entire international community.

“We also continue to denounce the North Korean regime for its abysmal track record of human rights abuses against its own people, and in particular encourage the Government of Canada to take every possible measure to help secure the release on Canadian citizen, Rev. Hyeon Soo Lim, who was recently unjustly sentenced to a life of hard labour.”
