Ottawa, Ontario – “We regret the court’s decision; we understand the Government is considering all legal options.

“As the Prime Minister has said, most Canadians find it offensive that someone would hide their identity at the very moment where they are committing to join the Canadian family. Both Justin and Thomas Mulcair are offside with Canadians on this issue.

“We believe that citizenship candidates should take the Oath of Citizenship publicly with their face uncovered, which is consistent with Canadian values of openness, social cohesion, and equality.

“The Government announced in June that a re-elected Conservative Government would introduce legislation to ensure that nobody can take the Oath of Citizenship while concealing his or her face.

“The Conservative campaign will provide an update in the days ahead.”
