Major General GA Chandrasiri, Chairman of Airport & Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Ltd. Has said that there is no need to shut down Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) at Katunayake which is the main air transportation hub of the island due to the spread of coronavirus.

The Chairman said the airport is continually being disinfected with the help of the Airport and Aviation Services. This decontamination procedure is to be done once in every three days.

The Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive (CBRNE) Wing of the Sri Lanka Air Force continues to assist in the quarantine and disinfecting effort hand in hand with medical teams at the BIA.

All passengers arriving from countries which are required to be quarantined are properly disinfected and handed over to SL Army personnel who transport them to respective quarantine facilities.

Meanwhile, the main Pettah bus stand at Bastian Mawatha in Colombo was disinfected with the contribution of the National Transport Commission. All busses that come to the central bus stand were decontaminated. Several hand washing stations have also been set up for incoming passengers.
