NDP statement on SAMS and T5 errors

“New Democrats have repeatedly warned that the chaos caused by SAMS will affect recipients’ income taxes, but the Liberals were too arrogant to listen. Today, the Liberals are admitting that incorrect T5s have been sent to the wrong people, making the SAMS nightmare even worse for families on social assistance. Incorrect T5 slips will jeopardize recipients’ funding for medical and child benefits, GST rebates and other grants and benefits. Now, another 720 recipients are being told that their privacy was violated when the government sent their social insurance numbers to the wrong people. The Premier’s “glitch” has turned into a nightmare for families – and a massive privacy breach – all as a result of the Liberals’ carelessness,” said NDP Community and Social Services critic Cindy Forster.
