Man Charged in a Child Luring Investigation

Investigators from the Internet Child Exploitation Unit have arrested and charged a man in a child luring investigation.

Officers from the Internet Child Exploitation Unit investigated a male communicating online with someone he believed to be less than 16 years of age, for a sexual purpose. The male used an on-line persona “Dave Smart” as his social media identity.

On Tuesday, February 4, 2020, at 1:00 p.m., Steve Patrick Kavanagh, a 41-year-old man from Brampton, was arrested and charged with Luring Child with Intent to Commit Sexual Assault, Luring Child with Intent to Commit Sexual Interference and Distribute Sexually Explicit Material to a Child. He appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton for a bail hearing on Wednesday, February 5, 2020, in answer to those charges.  He was released with several court-imposed conditions.

Kavanagh has travelled quite frequently, within Canada and the United States.
