Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has blamed the traffic police constable on duty for seizing the license of the city mayor’s niece unnecessarily, saying she was only a little girl.

Banerjee told the Assembly that the mayor’s niece was a little girl and that there was a huge furore in the state about the incident in which the girl was allegedly driving in a drunken state and violated traffic rules.

“Why was the girl’s driving license seized by the police?” the chief minister wanted to know and said that let there be a probe and law would take its own course.

She said that not all politicians were honest and noted that it was due to a few policemen that these things were happening, which were being witnessed everyday. Everybody needs counselling and hope things would get resolved, she said.
