Lunar New Year Statement by Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie

“On behalf of the City of Mississauga and Members of Council, I would like to offer our city’s vibrant and thriving Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese communities – best wishes for a happy, healthy and prosperous Lunar New Year.

“Lunar New Year is an opportunity for all residents to reflect on the important and lasting contributions Mississauga’s Asian-Canadian community has made as engaged volunteers; public servants; entrepreneurs; and business people.

“Each Lunar New Year is a welcomed opportunity for personal renewal. A time for all people to undertake resolutions, overcome challenges, and enrich their lives.

“2015 marks the year of the goat. It is said that this animal represents thoughtfulness, sympathy and other good-natured qualities.

“I have seen first-hand how all Mississaugans embody these genuine characteristics. Mississauga is a city that cares.

“As we celebrate the arrival of this Lunar New Year, let us be mindful of those less fortunate in our community who need our sympathy, compassion and assistance.

“I ask all residents to be generous with their time and talents. I encourage Mississaugans to engage in random acts of kindness. It is up to all of us to strengthen our neighbourhoods and make our world-class city an even better place to call home.
“Once again, let me wish all Mississaugans a Happy Lunar New Year.”
