Top Taliban leader Mullah Omar was sheltered by Pakistan’s powerful spy agency ISI after he fled from Afghanistan in 2001, according to an email received by former secretary of state Hillary Clinton.
“I’m sure you know the facts in this well-informed piece, how Mullah Omar was saved by ISI, for example, but the idea of Afghanistan as an aspect of lndo-Pak war is the best and overarching strategic concept,“ wrote one Sid to Clinton. The full name of the sender has been redacted. The comment in the email is on top of a New Statesmanarticle that said Pakistani had along history of nurturing jihadis as a means of dominating Afghanistan and undermining India. Omar died at a hospital in Karachi two years ago. Pakistan has refuted re ports of links between ISI and Omar.
The US State Department released over 4,000 more of the emails Clinton kept on a private server.
Clinton, frontrunner of the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, is under fire for using a private email account instead of a government one when she was the secretary of state.
