QUEEN’S PARK – Peter Tabuns, NDP Critic for Energy, issued the following statement in response to the release of an open letter by the Ontario Chamber of Commerce outlining businesses’ concerns with the sale of Hydro One:

“Ontario’s job creators are worried about the sale of Hydro One and how it will hurt Ontario’s economy. Today’s open letter from the Ontario Chamber of Commerce should compel the Liberals to come clean and reveal how much our hydro rates will increase when the Liberals sell-off Hydro One. We all remember that Kathleen Wynne promised to be transparent and accountable, but now she’s keeping Ontarians in the dark and refusing to admit that the sale of Hydro One will put jobs at risk and hurt our economy. Four out of ten businesses already say that the high cost of electricity is forcing them to delay or cancel investment, and the sale of Hydro One will only make the problem worse. It’s time for Kathleen Wynne to stop ignoring families and businesses by releasing the hard facts about how the sale of Hydro One will send hydro rates through the roof. The Premier shouldn’t find it this hard to do the right thing and listen to Ontarians.”
