HOLLETT: WE CAN’T AFFORD THE LIBERALS’ LOST DECADES ON CHILDCARE

TORONTO – Today, NDP Candidate Jennifer Hollett (University-Rosedale) criticised the Liberal party’s decades of failure on childcare.

“A child born when the Liberals first promised a national childcare program, would be finished University by now,” said Hollett. “Why are they now campaigning against a concrete plan to deliver one-million high-quality, affordable spaces?”

The Liberals promised childcare program in their 1993 Red Book, again in 1997, again in 2000 and once again in 2004 — they didn’t create a single space.

“As a young woman living in downtown Toronto, I’m proud to run for a party that backs up its principles with action,” said Hollett. “I know, as Prime Minister, Tom Mulcair and the NDP will deliver on our promise of one million high-quality childcare spaces, costing no more than $15 per day. We can’t afford to wait any longer.”

Toronto is among the most expensive cities in Canada for childcare.  Tom Mulcair and the NDP’s plan will get started right away by creating 123,000 spaces in 2016-2017 in cities across the country.
