(Ottawa) – Today Pierre Poilievre, on behalf of the Harper Conservatives, released the following statement: “Justin Trudeau and Kathleen Wynne are intent on imposing massive payroll tax hikes on middle class Canadians. Justin Trudeau has said he wants a “mandatory expansion of the CPP, of the type Kathleen Wynne put forward in Ontario.” According to the Ontario government’s own budget documents, the Trudeau-Wynne plan will cost every working Canadian earning $60,000 annually over $1,000 in new payroll tax hikes. The Kathleen Wynne Liberals have requested that the federal government assist in the implementation of this massive payroll tax hike. The Harper Conservatives have rejected that request.
“Middle class families in Ontario cannot afford the massive new payroll tax hike being proposed by Justin Trudeau and Kathleen Wynne. We are committed to doing everything possible to stop the massive Trudeau-Wynne payroll tax hike on middle class families.
“In addition to costing middle class families thousands in new taxes, the Trudeau-Wynne plan will kill jobs in Ontario. A study from the Canadian Federation of Independent Business found that sixty-seven percent of small business owners said increased payroll taxes would increase pressure to freeze or cut salaries, and thirty-five percent said they’d need to lay-off employees.
“The Harper Conservative believe in giving Canadians the options to choose how they save and spend their hard-earned money. A typical Canadian family is saving $6,600 annually because of tax relief and benefits provided by our government. We will not help Justin Trudeau and Kathleen Wynne implement their dangerous scheme to take money from workers and their families, kill jobs, and damage the economy.
