BRAMPTON – On Sunday, more than 350 supporters, including Wayne Marston, NDP Human Rights Critic; MPP Jagmeet Singh, NDP Deputy Leader; Martin Singh, NDP candidate for Brampton North; and local School Board Trustee, Harkirat Singh, officially launched Harbaljit Singh Kahlon’s campaign in his candidacy for Brampton East.

“Everyday we hear about a lack of full-time jobs, affordable childcare and food security; Brampton East is ready for change,” said Kahlon. “While working on the frontlines of Peel’s foodbanks, I have witnessed the struggle families are experiencing due to the rising cost of living. No parent should have to choose between putting food on the table and spending time with their children – the NDP and I, under the leadership of Tom Mulcair, are determined to change that.”

Kahlon is a community builder, a pioneer of multiple grassroots initiatives and widely known throughout the community as a strong voice for social programs. While a student, he helped build the CBC Hockey Night in Canada and Raptor’s broadcasts in Punjabi into a national staple of multiculturalism. As a member of the board, Kahlon also helped launch the Seva Foodbank’s fellowship program in an effort to engage youth and develop their leadership skills.

“Harbaljit Singh Kahlon is exactly what Brampton East needs—a refreshing change, a youthful presence and most importantly, a community builder with a proven track record dedicated to fighting for the residents of Brampton,” explained MPP Jagmeet Singh. “For the last decade, Harbaljit has been someone that has inspired me, someone who understands the value of working with others and will fight for our home team—Brampton.”
