Girl Jumps off Bus with Mother to Avoid Molestation, Dies

In a shocking incident, a 13-year-old girl died while her mother was seriously injuried when the two jumped off a moving bus in Punjab’s Moga district to avoid sexual assault by the conductor’s assistant. The incident took place on Wednesday evening. According to reports, the bus belongs to a company owned by Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal. The bus has been leased to another company and police officials were probing all documents, said the report quoting sources. The woman was traveling to meet her relatives at a nearby village with her daughter and 14-year-old son. According to the police, the assistant bus conductor started sexually assaulting the woman in a largely empty bus with very few passengers. The woman complained to the conductor and driver but they did not listen to her. The woman then jumped off the moving bus with her daughter leaving both of them badly injured. The son was left behind in the bus. The bus driver, conductor and his assistant stopped the bus and fled from the scene. The daughter died later at the Moga civil hospital, while the woman was said to be out of danger. Police is in the process of registering an FIR.
