GIDSS Hosts a Hugely Successful Interfaith Dialogue and Multicultural Event supported by the Department of Heritage, Canada

GIDSS, a non-profit organization that has been working tirelessly for many years to create a social climate in Canada in which peace and love can prosper held an Interfaith Dialogue and Multicultural Dance Event funded by the Government of Canada’s Department of Heritage.  The event took place on Saturday, December 15, 2018 with over 400 guests and two panels consisting of 12 faith and community leaders. 

GIDSS Board consists of Raminder Singh – Executive Director, Manisha Dayala – Board Chair, Sarbjit Chandi – Board Vice-Chair and Treasurer, Tilu Giri – Member, Daljeet Kaur – Member and a very large Advisory board for this event led by Anjana Thom from Peel District School Board. They have received funding from the government of Canada, Government of Ontario and the City of Brampton for numerous projects, including: Job Fair, GIDSS Talk, ESES, Get Connect and Smart Talk. They have a team of more than 300 volunteers and a robust advisory board of over 20 members representing different languages, different ethnic cultures and different backgrounds.

The host for the evening was Annie Koshy, President of the GTA South Asian Media Network.  The first panel, moderated by Annie consisted of, Acharya Surinder Sharma Shastri, President of the Hindu Heritage Center, Urz Heer, Community Engagement & Ethnic Media at Region of Peel, Sardar Gulzar Singh of the Malton Gurdwara, David Green, Executive Director, Free for All Foundation and Jose Antonio Pereira Cordeiro representing Our Lady Fatima Church, Brampton.

Panel 2, moderated by news media personality Akshay Tandon, consisted of, Rev. Anish M. George Padickamannil of the Church of South India, Col. Nasir Malik, Founder-Director of non-profit Pakistan Services Community and the HR and Marketing Manager at G Staffing, Pandit Roopnauth Sharma, Founder and Spiritual Leader of Mississauga’s Ram Mandir. He is also the founder of Canada Hindu Heritage Centre (CHHC), Raminder “Rosey” Kaur Chohan, owner of a Montessori Curriculum-Based school, Concept 1 Learning Centre, youth Liza Lotfali from the Bahai Faith and Ali Dogar a thought leader from the Muslim community as well as a media personality on Zee9 Digital TV.

A children’s parade with over 15 youngsters was organized at the start of the evening by Navneet Sharma, founder of Cander Warriors. Several multicultural dances also featured as part of the event. Joining the program were several seniors organizations such as Helping Hands as well as Detective Ismail of Peel Regional Police and Bhante Saranapala an Urban Buddhist Monk and Global Meditation Teacher who is also the Founder of: A Mindful and Kind Nation.

The hugely successful evening concluded with a recognition of the hard work of the Board.
