Suspect charged after North York stabbing leaves one dead, one injured

Police have arrested and charged a suspect wanted in connection with an overnight stabbing in North York that left one man dead and another in hospital.

The stabbing occurred in the area of Jane Street and Lawrence Avenue at approximately 2 a.m. on Tuesday.

Police said the men were injured when a fight between four people at a bar escalated and spilled onto the sidewalk in front.

A 20-year-old man identified by police as Kiowa Wind McComb was stabbed in the neck and chest, while a 23-year-old was stabbed in the abdomen. The older victim ran approximately two blocks north to Merrill and Patika Avenues, where he was found by paramedics.

Both men were rushed to hospital, but McComb died en route.

Police said the suspects got into a cab and left the scene, but officers caught up with the taxi and arrested 35-year-old Andre Appleton. The second suspect had already been dropped off.

Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau Seek Public’s Assistance in 3rd Homicide of 2016

 Investigators from the Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau are seeking the public’s assistance with an investigation into a murder of a 23 year-old man.

On Sunday February 7, 2016, at approximately 4:36 a.m., Peel Regional Police responded to a shooting in the area of Orenda Road and Dixie Road in Brampton at a business establishment. Officers arrived on scene and located the male outside with obvious signs of trauma. He was rushed to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The victim is a 23 year-old resident of Brampton.

Investigators would like to speak to witnesses who were at the establishment or in the area of Orenda Road and Dixie Road in Brampton at the time of the murder.

Public Safety Advisory – 3000ml Methadone Bottle Stolen

Officers from the 22 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau are investigating an incident where a large quantity of Methadone has been stolen.

On Sunday February 7, 2016, at approximately 2:55 a.m., a medical building located near Main Street North and Vodden Street, in Brampton was broken into. At that time a large quantity of Methadone was taken. The bottle contains 3000 millilitres of Methadone with a high concentrate of 10 milligrams per millilitre.

Methadone is a synthetic analgesic drug that is similar to morphine in its effects but longer acting, used as a substitute drug in the treatment of morphine and heroin addiction. It is potentially life-threatening if not taken properly.

Overdose symptoms may include slow breathing and heart rate, severe drowsiness, muscle weakness, cold and clammy skin, pinpoint pupils, and fainting.

Police are reminding the public to report any unidentified substances to police immediately.  If located, do not touch substance to avoid accidental absorption.  Do not ingest any medications or drugs unless they have been specifically prescribed to you by your doctor.  Seek medical attention immediately if you have an adverse physical reaction to any ingested substance.

Investigators are appealing to the public for assistance. Car and ambulance collide near Innisfil

A crash involving an ambulance carrying a patient and a car sent four people to hospital. South Simcoe Police said the head-on collision happened at about 9:45 p.m. near Innisfil south of Barrie

The ambulance was responding to a call with lights and siren activated at the time of the crash.

The driver of the car suffered serious injuries while two paramedics and a student aboard the ambulance were also taken to hospital for treatment.

The extent of their injuries was not revealed, although police say the paramedics were able to tend to the injured driver before other crews arrived to take over.

Weather and speed are being considered as factors in the collision.
