Fatal Stabbing in Mississauga

Investigators from the Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau are investigating a fatal stabbing that occurred in the City of Mississauga.

On Sunday, February 9, 2020, at 12:28 p.m., Peel Regional Police responded to a call for an assault in the area of Roadside Way, in the City of Mississauga.

Officers attended a residence in the area and located a woman suffering from what appeared to be stab wounds. Shortly afterwards, she was pronounced deceased at the scene. Abdiljibar Mahamoud was located by officers at the scene and was arrested. Two children under the age of six were present at the residence and were uninjured.

The victim has been identified as Brittney Newman, a 25-year-old woman of Mississauga. The victim and Abdiljibar Mahamoud were involved in a previous relationship. Abdiljibar Mahamoud, a 27-year-old man of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder. He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on Monday, February 10, 2020 for a bail hearing.
