Dhoni is joint-second with Clive Lloyd in the list of captains with the most World Cup wins
Mahendra Singh Dhoni notched up an individual milestone in India’s eight-wicket win over Ireland in the ICC World Cup, Pool B clash at the Seddon Park in Hamilton. Dhoni has now registered most wins by an Indian captain in the history of the cricket World Cup.
The Indian skipper surpassed former cricket legend Kapil Dev with 12 wins following his team’s emphatic triumph over the Irish brigade. Dhoni leads the list of most World Cup wins by an Indian captain which includes Kapil Dev(11) at second spot, Mohammad Azharuddin(10) at the third place, Sourav Ganguly(9) at fourth.
Dhoni, who now has nine consecutive wins to his name in the World Cup, also surpassed Sourav Ganguly’s record of eight successive wins in the 2003 edition of the tournament. He is now joint-second with Clive Lloyd in the list of captains with the most World Cup wins. Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting leads the list with 24 wins during 2003-2011.
