City of Toronto launches 2015 edition of the CIBC Trophy Mayor’s School
Cricket Tournament presented by CIMA Canada
Toronto Mayor John Tory, Councillor James Pasternak (Ward 10 York
Centre), Chair of the Community Development and Recreation Committee,
and Martin Saxton, Chair of the Chartered Institute of Management
Accountants (CIMA), today officially launched the fifth annual CIBC
Trophy Mayor’s School Cricket Tournament presented by CIMA Canada.
Also taking part in the launch were Raza Hasan, Senior Vice-President
of CIBC; Angelos Bacopoulos, Associate Director, Toronto District School
Board; and Nick Biagini, Program Coordinator, Health and Physical
Education and the Arts, Toronto Catholic District School Board. John
Moore, Newstalk 1010 host, was the event’s MC.
“Cricket is one of the fastest growing sports in the world and its
popularity is on the rise in Toronto,” said Mayor John Tory. “The 2015
Mayor¹s Cricket Challenge is a celebration of sport for our young
cricketers who are acquiring leadership skills and learning about
teamwork and living healthy, active lifestyles.”
“This is a great opportunity for Toronto’s young cricketers to
experience tournament play, and to build skills in sport, cross-cultural
communication and leadership,” said Councillor Pasternak.
The 2015 tournament will be held May 11 to 15 at Sunnybrook Park and G.
Ross Lord Park. The Greater Toronto Area finals will be held May 30 at
Sunnybrook Park. More information is available at

Canada is a way for CIBC and CIMA to extend its support, engage youth
and contribute to the community and the sport of cricket.
“CIBC is proud to support a program that encourages children in our
communities to get active while promoting and developing the game of
cricket in the GTA,” said Hasan. “We look forward to presenting the CIBC
Trophy to the tournament champions.”
“This tournament is a fantastic event that has given hundreds of young
people the chance to enjoy the sport of cricket,” said Saxton. “It has
grown far beyond our expectations, and I am very proud of the great work
done by our members to make it such a success.”
Cricket is one of the fastest growing sports in Toronto, rivalling
basketball in some schools. Played in more than 100 countries around the
world, it is increasingly popular with school-age children and youth
across the city. More than 50 school teams take part annually in Toronto
tournaments.
