A contestant on the British TV music competition X Factor has become the subject of a race row after she sported a white bindi during her audition. Chloe Paige, from Brighton, impressed the judges with her rendition of Katy B’s `Crying for No Reason’, winning a “yes” from all four judges, a daily from England reported.
Users on Twitter accused Paige, 21, of cultural appropriation. “Sistas, pls don’t rock the bindi. It’s becoming increasingly apparent that it’s disrespectful to many,” one user tweeted. Gwen Stefani, Madonna and Selena Gomez have all sported the bindi, but in the past few years, it has been met with objections from the South Asian community.
