Bollywood mourns Eminent Urdu poet-lyricist Nida Fazli

Renowned urdu poet and lyricist Nida Fazli passed away on Monday at his residence in Mumbai. He was 78 and is survived by his wife and a daughter.

“He complained of breathlessness this morning at around 11 AM at his residence. When we reached the hospital we were informed that he is no more,” a relative told media in India. . “He was just having minor cold and cough. He had no medical history as such, so it’s shocking for us,” he said.

Muqtida Hasan Nida Fazli, popularly known as Nida Fazli has written several memorable ghazals for Bollywood including ‘Kabhie Kisi Ko Mukamil Jahan Nahi Milta’ (Ahista Ahista), ‘Aa Bhi Jaa, Aa Bhi Jaa’ (Sur), ‘Tu Is Tarah Se Meri Zindagi Mein’ (Aap Toh Aise Na They) and ‘Hosh Waalon Ko Khabar Kya’ (Sarfarosh).

Nida Fazli was born to Kashmiri parents in Delhi. During partition, his parents migrated to Pakistan, but he decided to stay back. He did his schooling in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. He was a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi award and the Padma Shri.

Bollywood has condoled the demise of the acclaimed poet-lyricist.

Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt who had worked with Fazli on several occasions in the past, fondly remembered the legendary lyricist as a realist and one of the greatest poets of all times who was highly concerned about the general public apathy towards Urdu.

Music composer Anu Mallik remembered Fazli as a warm, talented and lovely human being and said it was an honour to have worked with him.
