Journalists, camerapersons and the management committee of the Press Club of Jammu have submitted a memorandum to Governor Satya Pal Malik, seeking action against Inspector General (Traffic) Basant Rath for allegedly slapping a journalist and snatching his mobile phone for unknown reasons.

Earlier the journalists had also taken out a protest march against him. They put forth various suggestions in the meeting after which a consensus was reached on the submission of the memorandum.

They said a complaint had also been lodged at the Gandhi Nagar police station for the registration of an FIR in the case. The incident has created a wedge between the state administration and mediapersons in Jammu.

“In case the issue is not addressed, we will be left with no other option but to take the fight to a higher level,” said the journalists.
