MPP Harinder Malhi speaks about her motion that was tabled to ensure Brampton receives proportional treatment

On Thursday, MPP Harinder Malhi tabled a private member’s motion that will bring attention to the healthcare needs of the growing population in Brampton. The motion asked the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, Dr. Eric Hoskins to continue to work with local health care planners and hospital officials so that Brampton receives proportional treatment for the increasing population in the city.

Last month, the Minister of Health stood alongside municipal partners to announce that there will now be 37 new beds available at the Brampton Civic Hospital. The Minister also announced that the government would be supporting William Osler’s next step in redeveloping the Peel Memorial site.

As the third-largest city in the Greater Toronto Area, and the ninth-largest city in Canada, MPP Malhi also asked the Minister to continue to work to improve the local patient experience including hospital care includes examining the potential for reducing emergency room wait times and other resources to address acute care capacity challenges at Brampton Civic Hospital. The Fraser Institute, Wait Time Alliance and Canadian Institute for Health Information have all ranked Ontario as having some of the shortest wait times in Canada.

The important investment of hundreds of millions of dollars by this government will enhance access to continuing care in Brampton and will create the equivalent of a medium-sized hospital locally. The government continues to make these important investments across the system that will increase access, reduce wait times and improve the patient experience for those living in Brampton. The Ontario Government has made these investments in Brampton so it may succeed and thrive so people may have access to the services that they need.
