In an apparent case of road rage, an drunk man allegedly hit two motorcycle-borne youths, Gurpreet and Maninder Singh hailing from Punjab, with his car in South Delhi. Gurpreet succumbed to injuries. The police said it was probing if it was a case of accident or the accused had deliberately hit the mobike.

The youths, both in 20s, were in the vicinity of AIIMS in New Delhi to film a documentary on pavement dwellers. While they were having dinner, a man started smoking. The two, according to witnesses, objected to his blowing smoke on their faces and he threatened them with dire consequences.

A quarrel ensued and people intervened, following which the duo left. “Rohit Krishna Mahanta abused them. A resident of Defence Colony and from Assam, he later chased the two and rammed his car into their motorcycle, dragging it for more than 100 metres, and then hit an autorickshaw and a cab,” a police officer said.

Rohit was arrested, but granted bail. He is studying law. Currently in hospital, the police are yet to question him. Section 304 has been added to the FIR, but Gurpreet’s family has  launched a campaign to seek justice.
