A 46-year-old Chicago police dispatcher shot an 18-year-old woman during a fight in traffic.
The shooting following a traffic fight happened at 3500 block of South Ashland Avenue in the city’s McKinley Park neighborhood.
The women became embroiled in a “verbal traffic dispute” that escalated and ended with the 46-year-old dispatcher firing a shot, hitting the 18-year-old in the chest, according to a police media notification.
The 18-year-old was taken to Stroger Hospital where her condition had stabilized. The older woman was also taken to Stroger for treatment of a head injury, according to police.
The 46-year-old is a city Office of Emergency Management and Communications staffer who had a concealed carry license. Records indicate she has been employed by the city as a dispatcher since 1995.
It was not clear whether police were going to press charges.
