“On behalf of the City of Mississauga and Members of Council, we join the Tamil community to mark the important and celebrated harvest festival of Thai Pongal.

“Thai Pongal marks an important occasion in the calendar year for Tamils. It is an opportunity to show appreciation to nature for providing bountiful harvests and nutrition, while at the same time looking forward to the promise and hope of new beginnings.

“Thai Pongal festivities coincide with Tamil Heritage Month in both Ontario and Canada. Tamil Heritage Month is an opportunity to remember the important city-building contributions Tamil Canadians continue to make to communities like Mississauga.

“Both Thai Pongal and Tamil Heritage Month are opportunities to reflect on, celebrate and educate future generations about the rich history and culture of the broader Tamil community.

“Let me once again wish everyone a very happy, healthy and prosperous Thai Pongal.”
