Amarinder held a meeting with his NRI supporters in a hall, while the protesters carrying pro-Khalistan placards had gathered outside the hall. As he came out, they started raising slogans against him for his alleged clean chit to Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in the case of massacre of Sikhs in November 1984 in Delhi. Two policemen gestured protesters to stay at a distance, and his staff and supporters made a human ring around him, while escorting him to his vehicle, and then left quickly. While they were leaving, a few objects were thrown at his vehicle. Even as rights group ‘Sikhs For Justice’ claimed that shoes were hurled, the objects could not be clearly identified in the video clips.
Before addressing people at a hall, Amarinder also met Fresno’s Punjabi farmers who grow grapes and almonds. On his way to Fresno, he also met Punjabi NRIs at Bakersfield. “Had a fruitful interaction with Punjabis into grape and almond farming in Fresno. My heart went back to Punjab, wondering why farmers back home should not be as prosperous, and as happy like their brethren in the US,” read Amarinder’s status on his Facebook page, with a picture of his meeting with Punjabi farmers in the fields.
