The mother of a 15-year-old girl beaten while in the care of Child and Family Services said her daughter may never be the same.

The teen was attacked on Hargrave Street in early April and remains in hospital.

Her mother said that she laughs and recognizes voices, but she cannot fully see or hear.

The family made the difficult decision to take out the girl’s ventilator in mid-April. Her mother said the doctor expected the teen to live only a few hours. She woke up a few days later. She still requires 24-hour care and supervision. Her mother said there have been some delays in her care because the hospital must get permission from CFS for medical procedures.

A 15-year-old boy, also in CFS care, was charged with aggravated assault and aggravated sexual assault in relation to the incident.
