Yorkdale mall attack- Police seek 6 “armed and dangerous” suspects

Police are seeking the public’s help identifying six teen suspects after a 17-year-old boy was viciously attacked at Yorkdale Shopping Centre on June 26.

In a release, police said the suspects stabbed the victim several times and beat him with a collapsible baton. He was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

Police said that all of the suspects are wanted for attempted murder. They are all believed to be between the ages of 15 and 18, and police warn that they’re to be considered “armed and dangerous.”

They are described as:

  • Suspect 1: Male, black, light-skinned, approximately six foot tall, medium-to-heavy build, last seen wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, red shirt, armed with a knife
  • Suspect 2: Male, black, dark-skinned, prescription glasses, last seen wearing a dark-coloured ROOTS hooded sweatshirt, armed with a collapsible baton
  • Suspect 3: Female, white, thin build, long straight dark hair, last seen wearing a Levi’s T-shirt, yellow hooded sweatshirt
  • Suspect 4: Male, white, olive complexion, last seen wearing a white-brimmed baseball hat, blue hooded sweatshirt
  • Suspect 5: Male, black, light-skinned, short dark curly hair, prescription glasses, last seen wearing a grey hooded jacket, white T-shirt, grey pants
  • Suspect 6: Male, white, olive complexion, wearing prescription glasses, last seen wearing two-toned blue hooded jacket, backpack with orange straps.

 

Police is seeking assistance from the public. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Police.

Peel Regional Police Officer Facing Criminal Charges

Following an investigation conducted by the Peel Regional Police Professional Standards Bureau, Constable Rajvir Ghuman, an officer with Peel Regional Police, has been charged with Domestic Assault, Forcible Confinement and Mischief Over $5000.00. Constable Rajvir Ghuman was suspended with pay as per the provisions of the Ontario Police Services Act. The Act stipulates that officers when suspended from duty are done so with pay.

Constable Ghuman is scheduled to appear at the A. Grenville and William Davis Courthouse in Brampton on August 21, 2017.

Chief Jennifer Evans has stated, “Conduct of this nature is not tolerated by the Peel Regional Police and any officer who engages in this behavior will be investigated and charged appropriately.”

Officers are subject to the same laws as all other members of the public and are also subject to discipline under the Ontario Police Services Act.

Male Arrested For Hate-Motivated Criminal Offence

Investigators from the 22 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau have charged a male with a Hate-Motivated Criminal offence.

On Sunday August 20, 2017, Matthew WIGHT, a 28 year-old male from Brampton, was operating a motor vehicle in the area of Centre Street and Williams Parkway in the City of Brampton.  Unexpectedly, the accused stopped his motor vehicle in front of a driveway of a residence.  While unprovoked, the accused uttered racial slurs and attacked the victim who was standing in the driveway.

The victim, a 31 year-old male resident of Brampton, was transported to a local hospital and was treated for serious facial injuries sustained from the assault.  

Matthew WIGHT was subsequently charged with one count of Assault Cause bodily Harm and one count of Breach of Recognizance contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
