Woman arrested due to unregulated Botox injections

Toronto police arrested a woman they allege was fraudulently portraying herself as a registered nurse in order to give clients she met on Kijiji Botox injections.

Police say two victims contacted police, saying they’d suffered adverse reactions and potentially long-term damage from the procedures. Police say they believe there may be more victims.

The suspect, 30, advertised her services on Kijiji and possibly other websites as well, police said. She then met her clients at their homes, businesses or a hotel to deliver the injections, police allege.

Recently, the woman, who said she was a registered nurse with the medical credentials to deliver Botox injections, was also injecting clients at a business in the Kipling Avenue and Queensway area.

Customers paid with cash, with some procedures costing thousands.

Police said it’s unclear if the substance the suspect injected into the victims was actually Botox — a form of the botulinum toxin, which temporarily paralyzes muscle activity to reduce the appearance of wrinkles — or some other substance.

Shiva Ashkani, of Brampton, was arrested last Sunday and charged with two counts of criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

She appeared at the College Park court , and is set to have a bail hearing on Aug. 31.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact police directly or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
