Involvement of Kashmiri students in terror activities, including the grenade attack on Maqsudan police station of Jalandhar city, has thrown a new challenge for the Punjab police and the security agencies. In the last around 35 days, Kashmiri students studying in Punjab have been found involved in three terror activities. On October 11, three students studying in a private institute in Jalandhar were arrested with weapons, assault rifles and explosives. On October 2, a student studying in Patiala was picked in a joint operation by cops from Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir for his alleged terror links. Even as both the modules busted by Punjab Police reportedly had allegiance with Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGH), a Kashmirbased terrorist outfit with reported links with Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), but officers probing the grenade attack case claim that both Jalandhar-based modules were not aware of each other’s activities. What has really worried the state agencies is the fact that educational institutes in Punjab have nearly 5,000-6,000 Kashmiri students and the agencies don’t want to paint all of them in the same colour.
