The Caribbean nation of Antigua and Barbuda is set to host the 2018 International Cricket Council Women’s World T20 beginning November 9, 2018. As one of the world’s foremost all-female cricket tournaments, the T20 will see thousands of fans and players from the Caribbean and beyond descend on the larger island of Antigua for 15 days of music, celebrations, and spirited competition in the sun.

More than just a tournament, the T20 represents a continued commitment to inclusion and equality in a sport with a complicated history. Cricket, traditionally regarded as a “Gentleman’s game”, was often a tool of both gender and racial segregation in the past.

“Antigua is honoured to welcome the ever-exciting Women’s World T20, now in its sixth edition” said Colin Skerritt, Director of Tourism – Canada, of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority. “Cricket remains a cherished part of growing up in the West Indies and we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to support the growth of world-class Women’s cricket on the global stage.”

The 10-team tournament will unfold across three different countries in the West Indies. The Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground in Antigua will be the venue for both the semi-finals and finals on November 22 and 24 respectively. All 23 matches of the tourney will be broadcast live, with fans being invited to follow the action on social media using #WT20.

With a plethora of white-sand beaches and azure water as far as the eye can see, Antigua and Barbuda serve as a truly idyllic setting for the Commonwealth’s favoured sport. The former British colony is located around 1600 kilometres east of Jamaica. As a favoured vacation destination for tourists from Canada, the U.S., and the U.K., Antigua is well-equipped to house both vacationers and athletes in its many luxury resorts and villas. Direct flights to Antigua and Barbuda are available year-round, departing weekly from Toronto and Montreal.
