Italy’s 2008 Olympic 50km race walk champion Alex Schwazer, who returned from a doping ban to win the world championship title last month, has again tested positive for a banned substance, Italy’s athletics federation said. “There has been a notice of a violation,” a spokesman said but could not confirm newspaper reports that the positive was the result of a re-test of a January sample, taken after Schwazer had qualified for the Rio De Janeiro Olympics. Schwazer, who won the European 20km title in 2010, served a ban of three years and nine months after admitting using the EPO bloodbooster in 2012, and now faces a life ban from the sport.
“IOC is intimidating Kenyan athletes”

By forcing Kenyan athletes to undergo additional drugs tests before allowing them to compete in Rio, the IOC is trying to intimidate his countrymen, a former running champion. “Kenyan athletes undergo various doping tests all over the world in Diamond League and other international competitions. This special test announced by IOC does not sit well,” Noah Ngeny, winner of 1,500m gold in the Sydney 2000 Olympics, told media.“This, to me, sounds like international bodies are intimidating Kenyan athletes. And that’s annoying,” said Ngeny, who stepped down as athletes’ representative within the Kenyan athletics ruling body, AK, two months ago.
