Some canned seafood products by Vasco Da Gama are being recalled after a potential contamination with dangerous bacteria.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued the national recall.
There are 17 products distributed at the retail level that fall under the order. All products are packaged under the Vasco Da Gama brand.
The recall was triggered during a CFIA inspection. It’s now conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products.
The agency says it is confirming the products are being removed from the marketplace. It is asking consumers to throw out or return already purchased items.
The CFIA says the contaminated food may not look or smell spoiled.
Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, fatigue, dizziness, blurred or double vision, dry mouth, respiratory failure, and paralysis. In severe cases, becoming sick from the bacteria may lead to death.
