Dubai Police have arrested a gang of three Asian men who robbed precious gemstones worth Dh10.8 million from a company in Al Barsha area.  Major General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, assistant to the Dubai Police Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs, said the gang were arrested shortly after they committed the robbery earlier this month. He said they received a call from a European man who owned the company saying that his gems were stolen. “He was on a trip outside the country and discovered the robbery after he returned to Dubai. His gems were stolen from a safe despite the fact that it has a secret PIN,” Maj Gen Al Mansouri told media. Police launched an intensive investigation and arrested the first suspect who confessed to committing the robbery.

“The suspect confessed that he watched the company owner’s son through CCTV visuals inside the shop to learn the secret PIN of the safe. He opened the safe and stole the gemstones and delivered the stones to his two accomplices,” Maj Gen Al Mansouri added. The two other suspects were arrested later while they were trying to find a way to leave the country and the gems were recovered from them.

Meanwhile, Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Merri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, praised the role of his team in nabbing the gang in a short time.

He thanked the officers for their success and honoured them. “Their efforts helped in arresting the suspects in a short time and they managed to recover the gems. Dubai Police can face any criminal challenge and can tackle anyone who thinks he can get away with his crime,” Maj Gen Al Merri said.
