Thousands Expected to Mark International Day of Yoga in Brampton

Thousands of  people are expected to attend International Day of Yoga in Brampton next month, part of worldwide festivities to celebrate this ancient and enduring practice.

“Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice with over 5,000 years of history behind it,” said Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the Founder of Art of Living foundation & a global humanitarian & spiritual leader. “Yoga continues to gain popularity due to its holistic and harmonious approach to well-being.  The International Day of Yoga will raise awareness of Yoga and its many benefits to health.”

Attendees will be able to learn more about yoga through practice and demonstrations of different types of yoga including: NaaD Yoga (Yoga of sound), Hatha Yoga, Raja Yoga, Sri Sri Yoga and Yoga dance throughout the day.  There will also be cultural events, musical performances, entertainment, exhibits from local health and wellness vendors, and food stalls. The family-friendly event will take place on Saturday, June 18, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the Brampton Soccer Centre. The event organized by the Art of Living Centre  GTA is supported by prominent Real Estate Development Company SJ71 Ltd . “This is a great opportunity for anyone from beginners to advanced Yoga practitioners, to take their practice to a higher level in a fun & friendly environment, said Fateh Chohan event organizing committee member. “Our goal is to make Yoga, in all its diversity, accessible to anyone irrespective of their age, gender, religious or ethnic background.”

The UN General Assembly proclaimed June 21st as the International Day of Yoga in 2014, with 175 nations co-sponsoring the resolution – the highest number for any such General Assembly resolution ever.  This year the International Day of Yoga will be marked for the second time.
