A sense of awe oozes from various online Sikh organisations, as they proudly share the pictures of the Sikh band White Sun winning the Grammy for the Best Age album this year. The California-based music group, White Sun, won the Grammy for their second album — White Sun II.

Those who have listened to it go on to share that the mystical track is soothing, with lead singer Gurujas singing Simro Gobind…Gobind Mukunday… Chattar Chakkra Varti.

What, however, has caught the fancy of many back home, especially Punjab, is the fact that the band White Sun has a strong Indian connect. The band is co-founded by Adam Berry, while lead vocalist Gurujas Kaur Khalsa is the other co-founder of the group and Harijiwan is a veteran Kundalini yoga instructor. Clad in pure white clothes and dastar, Gurujas, Harijiwan and Adam went on the stage to receive the award for the album that invokes mystical harmony, a moment that definitely makes the Sikh community proud.

Popular SikhNet posted the proud moment on their FB page saying, ‘I never imagined full bana on stage winning a Grammy for an album that has Gurbani. This is an amazing cultural milestone.’

Many Sikhs and non-Sikhs too have gone on various social networking sites to express their take, even though someone like Sid Singh Sidhu was slightly miffed as he expresses in his posts, ‘Surprised they never thanked wahegurji? That’s should have been first on list? Still, congrats on your Grammy?’
