Statement from Ontario PC Leader Patrick Brown on World Cancer Day

“Last year alone, an estimated 76,000 Ontarians were diagnosed with cancer.  This disease is the leading cause of death in Ontario and in Canada, with 2 out of 5 Canadians expected to develop a form of cancer in their lifetime.  These are our mothers, fathers, children, and friends. ‎

On World Cancer Day we get the opportunity to stand up in support of the fight against cancer, and to raise awareness on behalf of everyone affected by this horrible disease. This is a global event, which aims to avoid millions of preventable deaths every year through awareness, and education initiatives to encourage healthy lifestyle choices.‎

The theme of this year’s World Cancer Day is ‘We Can I Can’ – whether working together or as an individual, we all have the power to reduce the impact of cancer, small actions and big actions alike.

I strongly encourage everyone to participate in World Cancer Day initiatives, spreading awareness by sharing how cancer has impacted your lives, and starting a conversation on how we can work together to continue the fight against this disease.

Preventing millions of unnecessary deaths and suffering as a result of cancer is not outside the realm of possibility. Together we can make this a reality.”
